Bundled Up

I've learned more about heating systems in my couple months as an Oregonian than I ever did as a Californian. It's cold up here. The outside temperature this morning was in the low 30s, which means that our furnace should kick in and take over the heavy lifting from our heat pump, which is apparently a magical heating device that acts as a heater in the summer and an AC in the summer, all done on electricity and little of it (read: cheap).

The catch is that it doesn't function efficiently when the temperature drops below 35 degrees or so. Unfortunately, our furnace is on the fritz, so we awoke to a cold house.

Groupie

Just to get the creepy groupie effect going, I'm going to wear levi's, a rogue wave t-shirt (gotta figure out what this means), and a green button-up short sleeve shirt.

I'll be sure to sit front-and-center at the show for the full effect, getting up to play air guitar frequently.

rock show

today is a very special episode of what i'm wearing. my band, knife & son, is playing our second gig tonight. while i'm not of the school of "dressing up" for gigs, i do find myself putting at least an extra 15 seconds of thought into what to wear to shows. so, today i'm going with the levi's, a rogue wave t-shirt, and a green button-up short sleeve shirt. let the rocking commence!

Sadness

Levi's are getting a hole in the knee. I hate having to part with a pair of comfortable jeans, but I'm sure the hole will be gaping before too long, as I'm a fidgety fool (esp on caffeine) who cannot possibly stop himself from picking at the hole until it's the size of my kneecap.

Keep Your Distance

Adidas sweats, same t-shirt as yesterday, Patagonia Fleece, no shower. Cats are keeping their distance.

I also learned that a sausage, soda, potato chips, apple, and peppermint patty for lunch can leave a foul taste in your mouth. Shocking.

Muse

Standard uniform: Levi's, t-shirt, fleece, slippers. But listening to Muse: Black Holes and Revelations, which makes me think I should find a ratty, black rocker t-shirt and start seriously air-drumming. Ok, maybe I'm already air-drumming.

I'm a rocker. I rock out.

Running Clothes

I'm missing my commute to work, only in the fact that it provided me with at least a couple miles of walking (BART to the office and back) and a short bike ride every day.

So I'm trying to get into a running habit. It's hard as it's not getting light up here until about 7:15 in the morning. It's like I live on the North Pole.

Anyhow:
  • Nike running sweats
  • t-shirt
  • American Apparel sweatshirt

  • I look at the Nike sweats with a bit of disdain. They were a gift, and I generally don't buy Nike gear despite my new residence. But I realize I've boycotted them since reading about their labor practices 5-7 years ago, and I have no clue if:
    (a) the alternatives are any better. Are my Adidas sweats made my well-paid, pampered laborers? I somehow doubt it.
    (b) Nike still has the same labor practices.

I'm sure Tim will have thoughts here, and I'll find myself running in some $200 pair of hand-crafted, vegan sweats.

    the continental look

pj bottoms and a tee. the noteworthy thing about this t-shirt is that it heralds an establishment call o'connor's pub in doolin, ireland. my sister purchased this shirt for me whilst visiting said pub during an irish vacation she took with her husband in the summer of '97 to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary (yes, i am wearing an almost 10 year old t-shirt).

about 5 or so years ago, i wore this shirt to work one day. while standing at a urinal in the bathroom, a french co-worker of mine came in (not sure if his frenchness is relevant here, but i like to include all details in order to paint a rich portrait for the reader), spotted the tee, and exclaimed, "i met my wife in that very pub!" i was, to say the least, flabbergasted. i thought about giving it to him as a memento. didn't foll0w through on that one.

and, just to tie it all together, laura and i attended our first french class last night.

Sitting at PDX (free wireless!) waiting for a delayed flight to SFO. Travel gear not radically different from any other.

    *Long-sleeved white American Apparel t-shirt
*short-sleeved blue Ben Sherman polo-style shirt (sure, I'll go short over long)

If that doesn't say, this guy is going somewhere (where????), I don't know what does.

    the usual

pajama bottoms and a t-shirt that i got for free during one of my regular blood donations in SF. it's an SF giants tee, which should not confuse anyone into thinking that i am actually a fan of said team.

on a conf. call, will likely shave and shower around noon, after which i will put on jeans and a different t-shirt.

the beauty of this blog is that not a one of us is doing anything within the fashion realm that could possibly be of interest to anyone.

    Wash

Levis are in the wash, so I'm wearing the backup pair of 501s. And a long-sleeved t-shirt. And the beat goes on.

    Raconteurs in the cd player.

    Repeat of Yesterday

Mind you, I showered and put on a clean t-shirt and 'wears, but the rest remains the same. I wish I could say my wardrobe has changed much since I started working from home, but that was largely my m.o. prior to the change as well.

all societal constructs are breaking down

one thing i've learned since becoming a "telecommuter" (man, i really dislike that term) is that it becomes hard to justify putting any thought into my daily wardrobe.

my typical routine is to work in my pj's (pajama bottoms and a t-shirt) until around midday, then (ideally, if i have time, which i mostly haven't since around april) go for a run, shower, and put on "real" clothes. my choice of clothing depends on whether or not i have any social plans for that evening. if i don't, i'll just thrown on jeans (or shorts, if it's summer) and a t. otherwise, it's jeans and something with buttons. big difference, my friends...big difference.

    Worn

I'm wearing a vodka martini. I'm wearing the tiredness that comes with having a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter who, yesterday, as I was watching, face-planted off a park bench when I was just out of reach. I'm wearing guilt. In the shorts I'm wearing, which are painting shorts, as I'm painting the living room Benjamin Moore "Twisted Oak Path" ($40-a-gallon tan), I'm wearing a wallet in which I'm wearing about $120 cash and minus $11,000 in credit. I'm wearing a photo of my daughter in my wallet, she's absoutely the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, she looks just like Cindy Lou Who from The Grinch That Stole Christmas. She gets anything she wants when she looks up at Dad and she's wearing big blue blinking eyes. I'm not wearing shoes. I'm wearing a wedding ring my wife made. I'm wearing a couple of nasty bug bites, because I like to sit outside at night with my vodka martini, even if the bugs are biting. I'm wearing hair that should probably be cut in the next couple of weeks. I'm wearing skin that would look better if I drank more water. I'm wearing teeth that need to see a dentist. I'm not wearing glasses, but I can't hear worth shit. I'd wear a Dusty Baker Giants uniform if he came back to San Francisco and someone gave me one for free. I'm probably wearing the grease of a Quarter Pounder With Cheese I ate earlier today. I should be drinking more water. I should be taking vitamins. I should make a dentist appointment. I'm wearing apathy. I'm worn out.

    The Basics

black Ugg (ugh) slippers, 501s, long-sleeved green t-shirt.

Color descriptions should always be taken as a best guess on my part.
